A Close Look At Confidence
I am not always confident. Are you? If so, you lucky bum.
I think the one key to being confident is happiness with your SELF.
And as I have grown more confident and comfortable with myself, I have learned of this fantastic thing called confidence.
My old english teacher introduced me to this wonderful site called etymonline.com. It gives you the true meanings of pretty much any word you type in.
Here is confidence:
confidence
early 15c., from M.Fr. confidence or directly from L. confidentia, from confidentem (nom. confidens) "firmly trusting, bold," prp. of confidere "to have full trust or reliance," from com-, intensive prefix (see com-), + fidere "to trust" (see faith). For sense of "swindle" see con (3).
Pretty cool, huh?
Do you "firmly trust" in yourself? Do you believe that there is NO ONE else in the world like you?
Because I often find myself thinking that there isn't much to me. In fact, I consider myself quite boring sometimes. And sometimes I even tell myself that why should I even pursue anything I love? Because someone out there probably does it better or more creatively or with a better humor.
But that's why we are here. To learn about who we are, and to search all the cracks in the wooden, aged walls for something unique and special about us. Sometimes we find it through other people. Sometimes you find it in God, in hobbies, in sports.
The other day, a friend asked me how I had been, because we had not seen each other in a very long time. I said "Good!" and repeated it a few times, as she preceded to repeat the question. I realized that she wasn't looking for the typical answer you expect and want when you are asked a question. Not just: "Yeah, yeah life is good!". But something more special. Something about who I am.
Ask yourself who you are.
And don't reply "football player" or "chess player" or "ballerina" or "writer". But WHO are you? What is your identity.
