Continuing those Lines

poem continued:

Open my door

slam it shut.
Stuff tissues into all the
cracks.

Hide on the height of the staircase.

reverse the clock

then sprint as far
away

as you can.

ignore my requests

but then rebuttal with faint
heart whisperings.

allow your heart to flutter away

but never let anyone catch it.

Remember who you are

but lose track of what you are.

say that you will always be there

for me.

but walk below and into the abyss.

shovel the sidewalk

only for it to snow.

cut down trees.

they will grow again.

Tie a silk scarf around your neck.

Then rip it off.

Look through all the months of the year
in your paper calendar

then shred every single day.

Listen to blades cutting grass

then put some earplugs in.

wait for the leaves to return

but pluck them off

like the eyebrows on your face.

Put the paint on your face

but please,

take it off.

Neatly tuck the sheet

under the mattress

and then sleep on the wood floor.

Send me a letter,

but the envelope is
empty.

Buy one thousand hangers

but don't drape anything off
of them.

Spray cologne on your chest

only to sweat it off.

Gaze dreamily at those stars

and wonder the truths.

My only hope

is that upon viewing the curtain

draping over your life,

you will sweep it to the side,

and find

joy and me.
