Sundays are great!

Today at church, the funniest thing happened....well actually multiple things happened that made me crack up.

In sunday school, we were talking about how we need to be redeemed by the Lord.
Our teacher tried explaining this by talking about how we need to redeem coupons to get a discount.

He asked, "What do you say to the cashier when you need to redeem a coupon?"

I could think of no other good phrase at the time besides: "Make it happen."

And Joseph blurted out: "Make this coupon happen?!! that doesn't even make sense."

And then our teacher told the girls that women have tendencies to be "Catty," unlike boys.
Because when boys are angry, they just punch each other, while girls are "catty."

All the boys didn't even know what the word meant, so for reference, here is the definition (from dictionary.com):

cat·ty

1   [kat-ee]  Show IPA
–adjective, -ti·er, -ti·est.
1.
catlike; feline.
2.
slyly malicious; spiteful: a catty gossip.

(We were talking about the second definition above, by the way).

Of course, some of the guys thought our teacher meant a caddy, which is a totally different definition and word:

cad·dy

1   [kad-ee]  Show IPA
–noun, plural -dies.
1.
a container, rack, or other device for holding, organizing, orstoring items: a pencil caddy; a bedspread caddy.
2.
Chiefly British tea caddy.

So, just thought I would clear that up.

A word of advice from George MacDonald and President Kimball:

"It is by loving and not by being loved that one can come nearest to the soul -(my sister tore of a piece of the paper, so I don't know what the next part of the quote is. Unless I want to go search for the pieces in the garbage at church. Sorry).

President Kimball said: "Of course we all need to be loved, but we must be giving and not always receiving if we want to have wholeness in our lives and a reinforced sense of purpose.  Sometimes the solution is not to change our circumstance but to change our attitude about that circumstance."

These quotes just sound so beautiful to me.  We talked about heroes in Young Women's and I have several heroes, but I picked my brother to talk about.  He has just been so positive and honest about everything.  And I think its because he is serving other people.  He is a missionary spreading the gospel to other people! I think that's so amazing.  Often, when we think our lives are "oh so terrible and lame," we are being self centered.

Also, my dog just ran away....luckily we caught her.

Anyways, have a wonderful Sunday!

In situations like this, I often find that Webster and his more intellectual companions can rarely hold a candle to their urban counterpart.

See here:

Catty: describes females who feel threatened by another female's superior intellect or beauty, causing them to act mean and spiteful towards other women.

e.g. Alyssa, the particularly catty girl down the hall, loved to spread rumors to instigate fights amongst the other girls.

Or:

Caddy: 1. a low paying, demeaning job (also see: McJob) 2. A cadillac car, often driven by pimps.

e.g. Josephine was frumpy and lacked basic social skills, so she had to get herself a caddy job down at the local grocery store.
