I have been observing people a lot recently, (my whole life).
And I have noticed that we are all very needy.
I am not trying to put anyone down, but we are so hungry for attention that without consciously knowing it, we go to far extremes to get that attention. And sometimes, it IS consciously.
Facebook has become the online social gathering of teenagers and young adults. These people are hoping to (and have) become intrepid and totally confident, even showy.
I recently deactivated my account. In order to calm my nerves and addiction to "stalking" people, (I just hate that term: "stalking.") I am officially writing it down that I most likely WILL reactivate it. Not anytime soon, though. Day after day of religiously using this social tapeworm, I have come to realize that the many status updates and smiley faces and hearts are repeated for the sake of attention. Plain ol' - wait...it can't be that plain since everyone loves it - attention.
I see so many updates that show the status update-er really just wants sympathy and someone to tell her that she is still beautiful, or to ask her who this secret guy is, or to tell him that he is a bro.
Here is one question every facebook-er should be considering right now:
Are you updating your facebook solely for the purpose of sharing those exciting moments of life with friends and family in order to CONNECT and relate?
or
Are you just updating your facebook because you want a lot of comments and "likes"?
Just remember that there is life outside of your little facebook world. I, myself, have gotten too caught up with trying to have the best status update out there that I will have a bajillion "likes".
Besides this problem....guys are totally lame now. "Hanging out" is not dating (as my mother clearly explains to me) and we have made it TOO easy for all of civilization to get to know each other! This is why I prefer calling on phones. And hey...if you don't have a phone there is always email...
At least you won't be "stalking" these people on facebook.
