BUT..what a few people have forgotten is that it is okay to "judge righteously," as my mother put it today.
Leviticus 19:15 states: "Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment: thou shalt not respect the person of the poor, nor honour the person of the mighty: but in righteousness shalt thou judge thy neighbor."
In this case, respect mean to pick favorites.
Here is an example:
Unrighteous judgment:
"Wow, what a sleeze. She for sure is going to that eternal pit of damnation. She is so stupid."
Righteous judgment:
"Wow, that person is smoking, drinking alcohol, and is under the influence of drugs. I think I oughtta not hang out with them."
It can even be in simpler terms:
Unrighteous:
"That person is so ugly."
Righteous:
"This song is not making me feel joyful and good, I should turn it off."
What I just noticed is that with righteous judgment, there is an action made upon the thought you have created. Of course, you could also seek revenge or be hateful towards others as an action of unrighteous judgment. But don't do that. Because it is really lame.
The advice that I would give you would be to listen to your heart. Everyone has the spirit of Christ, (also known as your conscience). It tells you, through your heart, whether something is good or bad.
You might say, well how does anyone know what good and bad is?
Those two terms are getting pretty mixed up these days.
Well, I would like to say that there IS good and bad. It's all around us, always has been, and always will be.
And if you think that what is bad is good, then maybe you should rethink your though process and where your heart truly lies. For example, would you say Hitler made wrong decisions? How about in fairy tales. Do you believe that the Evil Queen made righteous choices? How about that octopus lady in The Little Mermaid? Do you think she was a super cool, awesome, bright, woman?
Yes...you should not judge other people and criticize them. That is God's role. At the final Judgment day. As for you and I, our jobs are to further our relationship with Christ, and we do this by following the Holy Ghost and the Spirit of Christ. AKA listening to your heart.
I may not agree with all the choices you make,
but I am not going to put you down for who you are.
Everyone has worth and value. Infinite value.
If you don't agree with any of this, that's okay.
You have your opinion, and I have mine.
As Gordon B. Hinckley said:
"No man's faith, no man's religion, no religion in all the world
can ever rise above the truth."
And I know absolutely, positively, that there IS truth out there. And it's not different for every person. (opinions are different.) The truth is constant. Like the North Star. Like Jesus Christ. And the love that he has for each one of us.
Love,
Mallory
